Meet Squirt! The Pompano Beach OASIS Program Mascot

McNab Elementary School 4th grader wins citywide contest to name this popular mascot

POMPANO BEACH – And the winner is…Reese Hartsell from McNab Elementary. Reese chose the name “Squirt” for the sprinklerhead mascot of the Pompano Beach OASIS program, and according to Reese, “Squirt will squirt water all over your lawn.”

The “Name our Sprinklerhead Mascot” contest was open to all Pompano Beach students from April 22 – May 13. Reese won a purple iPod Nano (purple being the color of the pipes that bring reclaimed water to our homes, parks and businesses). Ms. Candyce Rapp, the teacher who had the most entries, won a $100 gift card.

The contest was part of the Pompano Beach OASIS program. OASIS (Our Alternative Supply Irrigation System) is Pompano’s reuse water irrigation system, which enables homeowners to water their lawns any day they want (though they still have to follow irrigation hours). OASIS customers are not tied to watering day restrictions. In short, with OASIS, you decide when to irrigate. You can say, “I Can Water.”

With warmer, drier early summer months, keeping your lawn healthy and green becomes more difficult, which is why connecting to the OASIS reuse water system is the perfect solution. There is no cost for single-family homes to get hooked up to OASIS if it’s in your neighborhood. Users will see savings on their water bills immediately, because rates for OASIS start at 85 cents per 1,000 gallons, compared to $2.24 for potable water. Why wouldn’t you do it? Go to www.ICanWater.com to find out if OASIS is in your neighborhood.
